Laser guns and regular guns are different weapons in their own right. But if you've ever watched Star Wars, you'll notice;
The lasers move very slow compared to bullets.
Lasers aren't as lethal or effective, and there's not too much of a bloodbath.
The "KA-POW" noise of a shotgun is somewhat better than the "Pew-pew" noise of a little laser pistol.
So that's it. When the zombie-apocalypse comes, I want my AK-47, dammit.
